#leaveyourdignityatthedoor

The good news: Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Room has quite an impressive art collection!

The bad news: We've seen it. Twice.

Before we get into that, I absolutely have to thank everyone in Premium Services at the airports in Phoenix and Boston as well as the flight crew for tending to our every little need. Your compassion and attention to detail made our journey possible. I don't know how we would have done it without you. Tracey, Raquel, Suzanne, Dina, Joe, and the others whose names escape my mind at the moment... we're so grateful for your help and your kindness.

So, although the journey to the Cape went smoothly, settling in has been challenging. As much as Tim believes in being open and forthright, and in encouraging others to do the same, there are some details that are best unsaid. With two visits to the ER in 24 hours, it's been quite a ride. We'll try to encapsulate the past few days with a few key words. You'll thank me later for omitting details and photos.

ambulance.... IV fluids.... Ryan, the nurse with turquoise arm tattoos and a warm smile.... antibiotics.... bowel obstruction.... X-rays.... dehydration.... Betty, the nurse with the poofy blonde hair and wicked sense of humor... infection... tubes and bags and buckets, oh my!

So, why do we tell you this? It's Tim's idea. He wants to share, and he has his reasons:

This is life. It isn't always pretty. However, Tim and I have both found that when you dare to share -- not just the lovely parts but also the real and gritty parts -- people find out that they can do the same. They can reveal their real selves and live more authentically. From that, follows health, happiness, real friendships, and love. These are the true components of success.

We are easing over this bump in the road and look forward to restful days ahead.
